Community Works, 'a Social Enterprise'

For a number of years CGC, a charity and parallel faith based operation, has facilitated a number of non faith based activities (see Community Activity tab) for the benefit of its community irrespective of gender, age, mobility, religion or ethnicity.

Across the UK some Donors and Benefactors show a general reluctance to fund the community programmes of faith based organisations and, in some cases, they express unease at funds going to an organisation whose finances and administration, whilst wholesome and transparent, are combined with that of funded projects. For these and other reasons Community Works has been created as a stand alone organisation from which funded non faith based projects (see Community Activity tab) will be financed, managed and administered. At the earliest opportunity the company will also seek to gain charity status.

Community Works is a strictly 'not for profit' organisation and as such is limited by guarantee and not shareholdings. Its motives are wholly social and focused upon the Objects detailed below with 'all' funds and other returns, beyond modest operating costs, being cycled or recycled into community programmes. The Company was incorporated on the 13th March 2009 and, under section 30 of the Companies Act, is permitted not to use the term Limited given its activities are social and not driven by shareholder returns.

The specific Objects of the organisation are as follows:
  • The facilitation of lifelong learning, education, training/retraining and achievement
  • The promotion of and participation in healthy recreation
  • To develop the capacity and skills of those members of our society that are socially and economically disadvantaged in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their own needs and then participate more fully in their community and society in general
  • To relieve hardship, sickness and poor health
  • The relief of unemployment in such ways as may be thought fit including assistance to find employment
  • The provision of recreational facilities for those who by reason of their youth, age, infirmity, disability, financial hardship or social and economic circumstance, have need of such facilities
  • Other trading activities that result in an availability of funds for use in aiding other forms of growth for both the individual and community
